Vietnam Veterans of America and  Associates Chapter 1008 is a non-profit veterans organization chartered as a part of Vietnam Veterans of America (www.vva.org).

Chapter 1008 started with about 20 members, and with a lot of hard work reached 35 members, and we received our charter in April, 2008. We presently have more than 110 Vietnam Veteran members, of which more than 90 are life members. We also have 9 Associate members, 3 of which are life members.

Chapter 1008 has 2 main missions that are the focus of the chapter:

First, we try to help fellow veterans find the help in obtaining benefits they may be eligible for through the Veterans Administration (VA). We do this by providing brochures, online information and contacts with persons or other organizations that might be of help. Most of our members are combat Vietnam Veterans, so exposure to Agent Orange is of great concern to them. There are many benefits available to veterans in regards to Agent Orange.

Second,  we try to give back to the community. We receive overwhelming support through our various fundraisers throughout the year. This enables us to make donations to many charities, and other non-profit organizations. We donate to United Veterans Beacon House in Akron, PA, The Pennsylvania Wounded Warriors, Gold Star Mothers, Wreaths Across America, Fisher House, The Salvation Army, Martic M.O.S.T. , just to name a few.

The requirements for joining Vietnam Veterans of America are as follows: Members of the U.S. armed forces  who served on active duty ( for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between February 28, 1961 and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between August 5, 1964 and May 7, 1975. You must provide a copy of your DD-214 with your application.
